First question

As mentioned in this community's userinfo: "A unique picture is stored only once, regardless of how many people upload it independently."

What defines a unique picture? Will it consider only byte-per-byte equivalent pics to be equal, or will it use some other advanced algorithm to determine if the contents are the same? I could imagine a situation where several people upload the same picture, only compressed differently. I'm not sure how prevalent this would be with pictures, but it happens a LOT with MP3s.
